Position Overview
The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is looking for a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide care for patients with Orthopaedic Trauma. As a member of the trauma team, you will play a crucial role in managing patient care from the point of admission through to discharge.
This role involves working four 10-hour shifts with rotating days.

The NP/PA will conduct comprehensive examinations, evaluations, and assessments while interpreting clinical data to deliver optimal care for patients with orthopaedic injuries. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a professional practice setting. Our Orthopaedics Department is a referral center for patients throughout Maryland and beyond. The position includes responsibilities in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient interviews to gather health histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
- Order and assess appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Document health histories, progress notes, and treatment plans accurately.
- Serve as a liaison between patients and physicians to coordinate comprehensive patient care, including pre- and post-operative management.
- Provide care in both clinical and hospital environments.
- Engage in multidisciplinary quality improvement and service enhancement meetings.
Essential Requirements:
- Education/Training – Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). A Bachelor's degree is required OR a Master of Science degree with completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Experience – While prior experience is preferred, it is not mandatory. New graduates are welcome to apply.
- License/Certification – Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required. A current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians is necessary, OR registration with the Maryland Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner in the relevant specialty.
- Must possess a CRNP - Acute Care or PA-C license.
