WILDLIFE INTERACTION SPECIALIST
(SENIOR BIOLOGIST FOR HUMAN-WILDLIFE RELATIONS)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is on the lookout for a qualified individual to take on the role of Wildlife Interaction Specialist within the Wildlife Division. This position will be integral to the Department's mission and will focus on the dynamics between humans and wildlife.

ROLE OVERVIEW:
This role encompasses a range of professional and scientific responsibilities at the Senior Biologist level, specifically addressing programs related to human-wildlife interactions. The selected candidate will engage with various departmental personnel, state agencies, stakeholders, and the public to evaluate information requirements, gauge public sentiment, and ensure effective communication of vital information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee, coordinate, and assess statewide initiatives related to human-wildlife interaction, including wildlife rehabilitation and conflict management.
  • Offer expert guidance on human-wildlife matters to departmental staff, permit holders, and the general public.
  • Act as a representative for the Department in state and regional forums focused on human-wildlife interactions.
  • Lead the development of outreach materials and programs aimed at enhancing public understanding and support for wildlife management initiatives.
This position may offer remote work options in accordance with state policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, or a related discipline, along with two years of relevant field or laboratory experience. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Familiarity with human-wildlife conflict resolution strategies.
  • Understanding of the care and management of captive wildlife.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative work ethic.
  • Ability to convey technical information clearly and engagingly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in producing organized reports and educational materials.
