POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is on the lookout for a dedicated professional to fill the role of Wildlife Interaction Specialist within the Wildlife Division. This position is integral to addressing the complexities of human-wildlife interactions and will be stationed in the Department's central office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role encompasses a range of professional and scientific duties at the Senior Biologist level, focusing on programs that manage human-wildlife interactions. Key responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing and assessing statewide initiatives related to human-wildlife interaction, including wildlife rehabilitation and conflict resolution.
  • Providing expert guidance on human-wildlife issues to departmental staff, stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Representing the Department in state and regional forums concerning wildlife interactions.
  • Coordinating the development of outreach materials and programs aimed at enhancing public understanding and support for wildlife management initiatives.

REMOTE WORK: This position may offer remote work options based on departmental policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience in research or management. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Expertise in human-wildlife conflict management techniques.
  • Familiarity with the care and management of captive wildlife.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and a collaborative work ethic.
  • Capacity to convey technical information clearly and engagingly.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication, with experience in producing organized reports and educational materials.
