Position Overview

The Lumber Yard Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of staff involved in the loading, unloading, and distribution of materials, as well as the operation and upkeep of machinery and equipment within the lumber yard and warehouse.

Work Environment

This role requires onsite presence at our facility. Remote work options are not available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, and select candidates for employment.
  • Train staff on job functions and product knowledge related to yard and warehouse items.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Manage the receipt of incoming materials and ensure proper storage.
  • Prepare and verify shipping documents.
  • Oversee customer loading and assist in load building.
  • Supervise staff in loading, unloading, and delivery operations, as well as the use of equipment such as trucks and forklifts.
  • Inspect loading procedures to ensure adherence to safety and shipping standards.
  • Coordinate the movement of shipments to their destinations.
  • Assist customers with loading and inquiries regarding delivery and inventory.
  • Manage load building and vehicle inspections.
  • Schedule transportation operations to guarantee timely deliveries.
  • Support loss prevention initiatives, including safety and equipment maintenance.
  • Train staff on safe operational procedures and equipment handling.
  • Assist management with inventory oversight and purchasing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in all outdoor areas, reporting any hazards.
  • Collaborate with in-store personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience through training or formal education ranging from over 1 year to 3 years.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.

Physical Demands

  • Heavy Work: Ability to lift or exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 35 pounds frequently. This role involves standing and walking for extended periods and requires the capability to work independently and operate equipment without close supervision.
  • Occasional reaching and extending arms in various directions.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for tasks such as operating equipment and handling materials.

Compensation

Wages will be determined based on experience and education.
