Key Responsibilities:

The Vice President of Inland Marine will spearhead profitable growth initiatives with retail and wholesale brokers. This role involves close collaboration with the Marine team. We seek a highly motivated and results-driven individual with robust business and underwriting expertise.
  • Oversee the profitability, growth, and retention of a designated Inland Marine and Related Property portfolio through effective risk underwriting and alignment with the unit's strategic objectives.
  • Underwrite and negotiate intricate customer accounts to mitigate risk and enhance profitability.
  • Analyze premiums, costs, and claims ratios per contract, implementing corrective actions as necessary to ensure sustainable profitability at the account level.
  • Operate independently within assigned underwriting authority, making referrals as needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal partners across various functions to identify cross-selling opportunities, contribute to product development, and promote operational excellence.
  • Develop and sustain external broker and agency relationships to market and promote Ascot's offerings, executing individual territory management strategies.
  • Assess reinsurance needs and take appropriate actions.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 6 years of underwriting experience in the P&C insurance sector, with 7 years of experience in Inland Marine preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Inland Marine insurance products, regulations, and the insurance landscape.
  • Strong collaborative abilities and capacity to excel in a dynamic, entrepreneurial setting.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational, desk management, and prioritization capabilities, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Positive, self-driven, with strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Possess strong technical, analytical, and quantitative skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively in challenging situations with agents and brokers.
  • Solution-oriented team player with a strong relationship management skill set, engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Professional designations such as ASLI, CPCU, ARM, or similar are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel 10-15% of the time.

Compensation Overview

The actual base salary may vary and could be above or below the stated range based on factors such as experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base salary is just one aspect of Ascot's comprehensive compensation package for employees. Additional rewards may include annual cash bonuses and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company.
