Position Overview:


The Marine Underwriting Assistant Vice President reports directly to the Vice President of Marine, responsible for enhancing underwriting quality, strategic direction, and oversight for the Marine Business Unit in the South Central Region.

The successful candidate will exhibit a high level of underwriting proficiency, collaborating with leaders, underwriters, and corporate underwriting resources to maintain consistent underwriting discipline, effective organizational management, and robust agency relationships.

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Marine Leadership to formulate a Marine strategy that aligns with the overall Business Unit strategic plan.
Execute and promote a business plan that supports Marine objectives.
Oversee Underwriting performance by establishing guidelines, referrals, and audits.

Work closely with Marine leaders to assess performance across various marine business classes and influence necessary actions for improvement.

Provide insights for innovative product offerings to our marine clientele, ensuring competitiveness and product advancement, including tailored solutions for our program business and agency partners.
Ensure oversight and governance of all marine coverages.

Deliver leadership, mentoring, and guidance to cultivate a high-performing workforce within the Houston Marine team.

Collaborate with CL leadership and Corporate underwriting to ensure Marine initiatives align with corporate standards.

Partner with CL operations to maximize efficiencies and ensure workflow meets expected benchmarks.

Engage with corporate departments including claims, finance, reinsurance, compliance, legal, actuary, product development, operations, underwriting, and marketing to provide the highest quality products and services to our clients.


Qualifications:

Skills and Experience:


A seasoned business insurance executive with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, particularly in marine underwriting, product development, and legal aspects.

A proven leader with strategic and innovative marine product and underwriting capabilities, possessing deep insights into the local insurance landscape and competitive environment.

Proficient in analytical principles with a solid working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and corporate systems.
Demonstrated success in managing, coaching, and motivating teams.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
