Position Overview:

The AVP Marine Underwriting role reports directly to the Vice President of Marine, with responsibility for driving underwriting quality, strategic underwriting direction and underwriting oversight for the Marine Business Unit in the South Central Region. The incumbent demonstrates a high level of underwriting expertise partnering with leaders, underwriters, and corporate underwriting resources to ensure a consistent level of underwriting discipline, effective organizational management, managing agency relationships and communication in driving the business in a continued growth model.

This is a full-time, exempt role.

In This Role You Will:
  • Partners with Marine Leadership to develop a Marine strategy that aligns with the overall Business Unit strategic plan.
  • Implement and drive a business plan aligned with overall Marine objectives.
  • Manage overall Underwriting performance through the establishment of underwriting guidelines, underwriting referrals, and underwriting audits.
  • Partners closely with Marine leaders to understand performance within each class of marine business and influence actions needed to take corrective action and optimize results.
  • Provides input for state of the art product offerings to our marine customers ensuring competitiveness and product innovation, including customized products for our program business and agency partners
  • Provides oversight and governance on all marine coverages.
  • Provides the leadership mentoring and guidance necessary to build and sustain a high performing workforce in managing the Houston Marine team.
  • Partners with CL leadership and Corporate underwriting to ensure that Marine initiatives are consistent with corporate guidelines.
  • Partner with CL operations to ensure that the marine department is maximizing efficiencies and that workflow is meeting expected standards.
  • Partner with corporate departments of claims, finance, reinsurance, compliance, legal, actuary, product development, operations, underwriting, and marketing to ensure the highest level of products and service to our clients.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

Skills and Experience:
  • A well-rounded business insurance executive with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including extensive marine experience (underwriting, product, and legal).
  • A proven leader with strategic and creative marine product and underwriting skills and deep insight into the local insurance market and competition.
  • Well versed in analytic principles and solid working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and corporate systems.
  • Demonstrated track record in managing, coaching, and motivating staff.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
