Position Overview


This position is responsible for steering profitable underwriting practices for specified business lines by formulating and conveying a strategic vision for departmental growth, prioritizing team initiatives, and ensuring adherence to quality benchmarks to align risk selection with the profitability objectives of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise the underwriting team for designated business lines by reviewing and assessing new and renewal business to guarantee risk quality and appropriate insurance to value.
  • Promote standardization in underwriting by establishing risk assessment criteria, setting quality service expectations, and developing self-audit initiatives to ensure consistent and profitable risk selection.
  • Encourage a collaborative approach to business growth by engaging with colleagues, identifying profit and loss patterns, developing strategic initiatives for portfolio growth, and updating the team on evolving underwriting guidelines to achieve departmental profitability targets.
  • Identify opportunities for ongoing improvement by analyzing loss ratio reports, researching market trends and best practices, and leading the implementation of innovative underwriting strategies to enhance the portfolio and maintain competitiveness in the market.
  • Establish and nurture internal and external relationships by delivering training, leveraging personal credibility to inform risk exposure decision-making processes, and guiding the team to efficiently underwrite prospective business to meet service expectations and enhance the organization's reputation.
  • Develop sustainable underwriting operations by analyzing, refining, and improving current practices to ensure alignment with long-term business growth objectives.
  • Manage allocated resources by anticipating expenses, accurately forecasting resource needs and costs, and properly accounting for expenditures to meet fiscal responsibilities.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation

Base pay offered will vary based on education, experience, skills, geographic location, and business needs.

Annual Salary Range:
$178,000 - $266,000

Annual Salary Range: $196,000 - $293,000

Annual Salary Range: $223,000 - $333,000
