About the Role

The Ascot Group is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Assistant Vice President, Inland Marine to join our team. As a key member of our Marine team, you will be responsible for driving profitable growth with retail and wholesale brokers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting and Risk Management: Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned Inland Marine and Related Property book of business through execution of individual risk underwriting and adherence to the strategic plan of the unit.
  • Customer Relationships: Underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Account Management: Monitor premiums, costs, and claims ratios per contract and take corrective measures if necessary to ensure long-term profitability at account level.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work independently within delegated underwriting authority and make referrals as required. Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners across functional areas to identify cross-selling opportunities, assist in product development, and operational excellence.
  • Broker and Agency Relationships: Foster and maintain external broker and agency relationships to market and sell Ascot's products and execute on individual territory management plan.
  • Reinsurance and Compliance: Evaluates reinsurance requirements and implements appropriate action.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of underwriting experience in the P&C insurance industry, 7 years of experience underwriting Inland Marine strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Deep knowledge of Inland Marine insurance products, insurance regulations, and the insurance industry. Strong collaborative skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Strong critical thinking skills. Excellent organizational, desk management, and prioritization skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional Designations: ASLI, CPCU, ARM or other relevant professional designation preferred, but not required.
  • Travel: Ability to travel 10-15%.
