Position Overview

Title: Peer Specialist

Reports to: Program Director

Department: Youth Stand United

Work Schedule: Part Time - 15 hours per week, specific days to be determined

Compensation: $19.50 per hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Role Summary:

The Peer Specialist is responsible for delivering essential peer and community support to youth, acting as an advocate both within the program and the broader community. This role emphasizes the importance of professional conduct in the workplace, while also facilitating social skills activities, mentoring, and providing advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute events aimed at empowering and educating youth involved in the Youth Stand United program.
  • Collaborate with the Case Manager and Vocational Coordinator to assist youth in achieving their educational and vocational aspirations.
  • Share valuable insights and experiences regarding available programs and resources that can aid youth in skill development.
  • Guide youth in fostering positive relationships with peers, family, and the community.
  • Support the organization and execution of social, recreational, and educational activities for youth.
  • Conduct outreach efforts to promote the program and enhance participant enrollment.
  • Engage with youth in the program to ensure retention and ongoing support.
  • Represent the youth, program, and agency at relevant gatherings and discussions at various levels.
  • Complete necessary documentation promptly and in accordance with program standards.
  • Adhere to all program and agency protocols as required.
  • Participate in agency-wide meetings and collaborative groups as needed.
  • Assist in the development of funding proposals when necessary.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or GED/HSE is required; some college education is preferred. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will be a young adult with a strong understanding of emotional and behavioral challenges, as well as familiarity with mental health services and programs.
