Position Overview

Department: Youth Stand United

Work Schedule: Part Time - 15 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Schedule to be determined

Compensation: $19.50 per hour

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Role Summary:

The Peer Specialist is tasked with delivering peer and community support to youth, serving as an advocate both within the program and the broader community. This role exemplifies professional conduct in the workplace, aids in organizing social skills initiatives, acts as a mentor, and provides essential peer support and advocacy. Additionally, the Peer Specialist plays a key role in planning and coordinating leisure activities, workshops, groups, and career clubs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute events aimed at empowering, educating, and supporting youth involved in the Youth Stand United program (YSU).
  • Collaborate with the Case Manager and Vocational Coordinator to assist youth in achieving their GED and vocational aspirations.
  • Share personal insights and experiences regarding programs and resources that can help youth enhance their skills.
  • Guide youth in fostering positive relationships with peers, family, and the community.
  • Support the organization and execution of social, recreational, and educational programs and events for youth.
  • Conduct outreach efforts to promote the program and boost enrollment.
  • Engage with youth in the program to ensure retention and ongoing support.
  • Represent the youth, program, and agency at relevant gatherings focused on youth issues.
  • Complete all necessary documentation promptly and professionally, adhering to program regulations.
  • Comply with all program and agency requirements as necessary.
  • Participate in agency-wide meetings and groups as required.
  • Assist in the development of funding proposals as needed.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or GED/HSE, with some college experience preferred. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Ideal candidates will be young adults who understand emotional and/or behavioral challenges and have familiarity with mental health services or programs.
