At Brooklyn Community Services, we operate a supportive housing initiative designed for young adults aged 18-25 who are experiencing serious mental health challenges and have a history of homelessness. Our program is dedicated to creating a secure and supportive environment, particularly for individuals from the LGBTQ+ community, assisting them in achieving long-term stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster a safe and inclusive living environment for young adults facing homelessness and mental health issues.
- Deliver high-quality services to clients in line with regulatory standards and organizational values, serving as a positive role model.
- Assist residents in developing essential daily living skills, including budgeting, meal preparation, and personal care.
- Conduct weekly group sessions to support residents in transitioning to independent living, covering topics such as medication management and job readiness.
- Collaborate with case managers to help clients meet their individualized service goals.
- Facilitate individual sessions focused on skill development and document progress in a timely manner.
- Provide case management support during staff absences to ensure continuity of care.
- Accompany clients to necessary appointments, including medical and social services.
- Connect residents with community resources to enhance their overall well-being.
- Encourage participation in community activities to improve social skills.
- Work with the social services team to ensure residents complete required documentation for housing recertification.
- Participate in safety skills training and assist with resident transitions.
- Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
- Support community initiatives and church programs as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a human services field is required; Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience working with homeless or at-risk youth, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Ability to engage with young people and build supportive relationships.
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and manage stress effectively.
Technical Skills:
- Ability to navigate challenges and advocate for clients.
- Willingness to learn data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborative skills for teamwork and external partnerships.
- Knowledge of community resources and services.
