Position Overview

The Unaccompanied Alien Children Program is dedicated to providing temporary residential support and essential services to Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) under the legal guardianship of the Federal Government.

In partnership with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, our initiative ensures a secure and nurturing environment for 33 youths in a Basic Shelter program at our licensed residential facility, as well as a Transitional Foster Care program accommodating 40 youths in certified foster homes.

Both programs focus on delivering therapeutic and educational services alongside various supports tailored to help youths succeed through a range of strength-based and targeted interventions. We also facilitate connections with family members or other sponsors in the United States, empowering them to progress in their lives and thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary supervisor for youths, ensuring their safety, personal conduct, and care while providing therapeutic interventions.
  • Maintain security across the premises, intervening during emergencies or crisis situations as necessary.
  • Supervise, counsel, and redirect residents in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the movement of youths within and outside the facility, conducting periodic counts.
  • Monitor youths during recreational and various activities, including educational studies and independent living, while conducting health and safety inspections.

Collaboration and Communication
  • Engage constructively with fellow staff members to develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
  • Build strong relationships with youths, colleagues, and team members.
  • Assist youths with personal challenges, referring issues to the group in line with program principles.
  • Observe and report significant behavioral conditions to staff daily.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports regarding each youth's adjustment and progress.
  • Document log entries and reports promptly.
  • Escort and/or transport youths to designated locations.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion in performing duties, adhering to departmental rules and regulations.
  • Be available for weekend and evening shifts.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Preferred candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in one or more of the following fields: Counseling, Criminal Justice, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or Social Work.


  • Experience: At least one year in a residential treatment program.
  • Two or more years of experience in group work involving direct care and interaction with youths, such as in YMCA, schools, recreational facilities, or residential care programs.

  • Must hold a valid vehicle operator's license with a clean driving record.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or English/Creole) is required.
