Reports to: Program Director
Work Schedule: Full-Time - 35 Hours per week; Availability for Afternoon and Evening shifts is necessary.
Compensation: $35,000 annually
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
About Us: Established in 1866, Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) is dedicated to empowering children and families, enabling them to achieve their fullest potential, enhance family stability, and promote self-sufficiency among adults. With a presence in 28 locations, BCS serves over 20,000 individuals annually.
Program Overview: The Cortelyou program is a supportive housing initiative designed for young adults aged 18-25 who are facing Serious and Persistent Mental Illness and have a history of homelessness. This program is particularly inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community, providing a safe and affirming environment alongside essential support services aimed at fostering long-term stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with program staff to assist residents in budgeting, shopping, meal planning, and maintaining cleanliness.
- Engage with community providers to address challenges that may hinder residents' ability to sustain supportive housing.
- Document progress notes within 24 hours following individual sessions.
- Accompany clients to various appointments as directed by the Program Director.
- Participate in community recreational activities to enhance socialization skills among consumers.
- Connect clients with peer support and self-help recovery resources.
- Educate residents on effective use of public transportation.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions as assigned.
- Assist in coordinating resident move-ins and move-outs.
- Provide support services to community residents and local social programs.
- Participate in fire drill facilitation.
- Attend all required meetings, trainings, seminars, workshops, and case conferences as assigned.
- Complete all tasks and special projects as directed by the Program Director.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.
- Peer specialist certification is preferred.
- Experience working with LGBTQIIA youth is essential.
- Candidates must possess lived experience of homelessness.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
- Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills are required.
- A commitment to assist others in achieving recovery and wellness goals based on personal experience is essential.
- OMH Fingerprinting and background check are mandatory.
