Position Overview

Role Purpose

The Chief Financial Officer is accountable for the formulation and management of the credit union's fiscal and financial systems, ensuring adherence to State and Federal regulations and GAAP. This role involves planning, directing, organizing, and supervising the financial operations and investments of the credit union in line with established policies. The CFO will develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems, practices, controls, and procedures, while also managing accounting and purchasing functions. This position provides leadership and oversight for the Coast Central Retirement and Investment Planning program and is part of the Senior Management Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the annual business plan budget and income/ALM simulation forecasts to support the Strategic Plan.
  • Set pricing for products offered to members.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to ensure financial objectives are met.
  • Ensure the accuracy of financial reports presented to the Board and compliance with regulatory filing requirements.
  • Recommend and procure investments; develop and suggest investment strategies while monitoring third-party investment management services.
  • Oversee the Accounting Department and determine accounting policies.
  • Manage the recruitment, counseling, performance evaluations, training, motivation, and discipline of assigned staff.
  • Ensure appropriate insurance coverage for the credit union.
  • Proactively manage the credit union's balance sheet to safeguard net worth and liquidity.
  • Collaborate with other Senior Management Team members to develop and implement credit union objectives, services, and programs.
  • Stay informed about laws and regulations impacting the credit union.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Candidate Profile

Experience and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or accounting (or a related field) with a minimum of 10 years of experience in finance, accounting, and management, including at least five years in a financial institution role. Relevant credit union experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Ability to understand and respond accurately to complex verbal and written communications.
  • Visual and mental acuity to read and comprehend printed materials.
  • Proficient in using a keyboard, computer, and other office equipment.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills for developing budgets and conducting cost/benefit analyses.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.

Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of proven knowledge and experience in finance, accounting, and management, along with an understanding of credit union operations. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others are essential. Computer literacy is required, and the candidate must present a professional image.

Education

A Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or accounting (or a related field) with at least 10 years of experience in finance, accounting, and management, including a minimum of five years in a financial institution role.
