Role Overview:

In this role, you will assess the fundamental needs, health, and welfare of Dakota County residents by evaluating clients' economic, social, and health-related challenges to accurately establish eligibility for public assistance programs.

Examples of programs include Child Care Assistance Program, General Assistance, Medicaid, Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), MNsure, and Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

This position is ideal for individuals who appreciate engaging with people and technology, and have a passion for assisting individuals or families during financial hardships.

Public Assistance Eligibility Specialists serve as a crucial support system against poverty. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, exceptional customer service, and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assess eligibility for various public assistance programs, conduct interviews, and verify information from multiple sources.
- Regularly review household information to ensure continued eligibility.
- Communicate program regulations, requirements, benefit levels, expectations, and timelines to clients.
- Calculate benefit amounts according to county, state, and federal guidelines.
- Perform data entry into various state and county systems.
- Manage individual or team caseloads effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; OR
- Associate's Degree
AND two or more years of public-facing experience; OR
- Technical Certificate/Diploma
AND three or more years of public-facing experience; OR
- Completion of at least 90 quarter credits (incomplete degree)
AND two or more years of public-facing experience; OR
- High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

AND
- Four or more years of experience in a closely related role such as Public Financial Worker, Child Support Specialist, or Program Associate/Case Aid. At least one year of experience must have been in Minnesota within the last five years.

AND
- Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in keyboard skills, including typing at least 35 WPM.


To be eligible for hire, applicants must successfully complete a background check and meet the criminal history criteria necessary to access specific networks/systems required for the essential functions of this role.


Work Environment:
This position operates in a hybrid model, primarily remote after initial training.

Occasional in-office presence may be required for team meetings, equipment collection, or mandatory training sessions.

Lifting requirements may include up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment utilized may include, but is not limited to, laptop, printer, calculator, and telephone.
