Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will assess the fundamental needs, health, and welfare of residents by evaluating their economic, social, and health-related circumstances to accurately establish eligibility for public assistance programs.

Examples of programs include Child Care Assistance Program, General Assistance, Medicaid, Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), MNsure, and Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).


This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with clients and utilizing technology, with a passion for assisting individuals or families facing financial challenges.

Public Assistance Eligibility Specialists serve as a critical resource in combating poverty. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, exceptional customer service, and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Examples of Duties:
Assess eligibility for various public assistance programs, conduct interviews, and verify information from multiple sources.
Review household data periodically to ensure ongoing eligibility.
Communicate program regulations, benefit levels, expectations, and timelines to clients.
Calculate benefit amounts according to county, state, and federal guidelines.
Perform data entry into various state and county systems.
Manage individual or team caseloads.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; OR
Associate's Degree
AND two or more years of public-facing experience; OR
Technical Certificate/Diploma
AND three or more years of public-facing experience; OR
Completion of at least 90 quarter credits (incomplete degree)
AND two or more years of public-facing experience; OR
High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

AND four or more years of experience in a related role such as:
Public Financial Worker, Child Support Specialist, or Program Associate/Case Aid. At least one year of experience must have occurred within the last five years.

AND
Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in keyboard skills, including typing at least 35 WPM.


To be eligible for hire, an applicant must successfully complete a background check and meet the criminal history criteria necessary to access specific networks/systems required for this position.


Work Environment:
This role is primarily remote after initial training, with occasional requirements to work in an office setting for team meetings, training, or equipment collection.

Physical demands may include lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally. Equipment utilized may include a laptop, printer, calculator, and telephone.
