Note:
This position is intended for candidates with recent experience in determining eligibility for public assistance benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will assess the fundamental needs, health, and welfare of Dakota County residents by evaluating their economic, social, and health-related circumstances to accurately establish eligibility for public assistance programs.
Examples of programs include Child Care Assistance, General Assistance, Medicaid, Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), MNsure, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with clients and utilizing technology, with a passion for assisting individuals or families facing financial challenges.
Eligibility Specialists serve as a critical resource in combating poverty. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, exceptional customer service, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
Typical Duties Include:
1. Evaluating eligibility for various public assistance programs, conducting interviews, and verifying information from multiple sources.
2. Regularly reviewing household information to ensure continued eligibility.
3. Communicating program regulations, benefit levels, expectations, and timelines to clients.
4. Calculating benefit amounts according to county, state, and federal guidelines.
5. Performing data entry across various state and county systems.
6. Managing individual or team caseloads.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; OR
2. Associate's Degree AND two or more years of public-facing experience; OR
3. Technical Certificate/Diploma AND three or more years of public-facing experience; OR
4. Completion of at least 90 quarter credits (incomplete degree) AND two or more years of public-facing experience; OR
5. High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND four or more years of experience in a related role such as Public Financial Worker, Child Support Specialist, or Program Associate/Case Aid. At least one year of experience must have been gained in Minnesota within the last five years.
AND
Proficiency in keyboard skills, including a typing speed of at least 35 WPM.
To qualify for employment, candidates must successfully complete a background check and meet the criminal history criteria necessary for accessing specific networks/systems required for the role.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a hybrid model, primarily remote after initial training. There may be occasions requiring presence in a County office or designated location for team meetings, equipment collection, or mandatory training.
Physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. Equipment utilized may include laptops, printers, calculators, and telephones.
