Job Overview:
The Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facility. Under the guidance of the Facilities Manager and EVS Supervisor, this position is responsible for the thorough cleaning of designated areas, including patient rooms, restrooms, administrative offices, and other necessary locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that housekeeping supplies are replenished daily in accordance with established inventory levels.
- Perform floor care duties, including cleaning, buffing, scrubbing, and waxing surfaces.
- Manage waste disposal effectively.
- Conduct terminal cleaning as per established hospital protocols.
- Demonstrate proper decontamination techniques for clinical areas, equipment, and reusable supplies in compliance with hospital standards.
- Provide recommendations for improvements to existing policies and procedures as necessary.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment, adhering to safety and infection control guidelines.
- Wear appropriate attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) in restricted areas.
- Follow standard precautions and safe practices when handling biohazardous materials.
- Keep janitorial closets organized and clean to prevent hazards.
- Display safety signage to ensure a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Report chemical spills immediately and understand the protocols for exposure incidents.
- Utilize, store, and maintain cleaning chemicals safely according to manufacturer guidelines, reporting any hazardous conditions promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness in patient areas consistently, following standard cleaning procedures.
- Identify potential risks to patients and take appropriate actions to mitigate them.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, particularly those regarding conduct, compliance, diversity, and confidentiality.
Physical Requirements:
The role requires bending, sitting, squatting, crawling, reaching, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. The technician must be able to stand for extended periods and exert force of up to 50 lbs when pushing or pulling.
Education & Experience:
A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience in Environmental Services or housekeeping within a healthcare or surgical environment.
COVID-19 Precautions:
Compliance with mandatory vaccinations, face mask protocols, social distancing measures, patient testing, visitor restrictions, and thorough cleaning procedures is required.
