Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified individual for the role of Scientific Program Manager. This position will be instrumental in advancing the objectives of the Genomics Research Branch (GRB), which focuses on research in psychiatric genetics to unravel the genetic underpinnings of mental health disorders. The research portfolio includes genome-wide association studies, whole exome and genome sequencing, fine-mapping for causal variant identification, admixture mapping for population-specific risk factors, copy number variation, and functional genomics studies related to genetic variation consequences, as well as epigenetic studies examining gene-environment interactions. The successful candidate will oversee the scientific and programmatic activities associated with the GRB portfolio. This is a full-time position.

  • Establish and maintain effective communication with grantees and applicants.
  • Monitor timelines, milestones, requirements, and deliverables for grant awards to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Develop meeting agendas, coordinate preparations, and document decisions and action items for internal and external meetings.
  • Prepare programmatic notes and document relevant genomic data sharing information for grant applications.
  • Collaborate with program officers to assess the appropriateness of submitted genomics data sharing plans.
  • Assist in the development of Data Sharing and Management Plans for new applications.
  • Contribute to the review and preparation of presentations for Genomics Research Branch applications.
  • Engage with the NINH-wide Genomics Team on programmatic activities related to genomics grant applications.
  • Assist in the drafting and editing of Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs).
  • Participate in various meetings and provide minutes/reports and analytical insights as needed.
  • Compile the Institute's annual report on program activities, leveraging scientific expertise to identify common themes and cross-cutting scientific areas.
  • Offer guidance and consultation to staff regarding policy, programs, communications, and strategic partnerships.
  • Regularly meet with senior management to provide updates on ongoing projects and receive new assignments.
  • Conduct scientific and administrative reviews and analyses of applications and proposals from a programmatic perspective.
  • Collaborate with staff to refine and revise grant proposals for submission.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Life Sciences or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience in biotechnology or related areas, with hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Strong organizational and operational skills, with experience managing projects and reports in a laboratory or team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and effectively manage workflows in a collaborative setting.
  • Proactive problem solver with a self-motivated approach to meeting timelines and deliverables.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with multidisciplinary teams and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
