Employment Type: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for conducting outreach efforts based on referrals from community contacts regarding victims of non-fatal shootings and individuals at risk of perpetuating violence in North Philadelphia. This role involves collaborating with APM's Violence Intervention Therapists to effectively engage these individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the APM Violence Intervention team to facilitate community engagement within designated Philadelphia Police Districts, under the guidance of the Program Director and community leaders.
  • Conduct outreach to victims of non-fatal shootings as identified by the Police Department, ideally within 48 hours of the incident.
  • Partner with Hospital-Based Violence Programs to assess and engage non-fatal shooting victims in their care.
  • Meet various eligibility criteria for different services provided to each young person within a specified timeframe, including mental health screenings, safety planning meetings, and healing circles.
  • Manage a small caseload of non-fatal shooting victims when necessary.
  • Represent APM at community events, meetings, and learning communities in coordination with other program staff.
  • Work with APM Directors to engage key partners to enhance referrals, resources, and support for participants.
  • Maintain a Non-Fatal Shooting Victim Outreach list, typically comprising 20-30 young individuals, depending on capacity.
  • Collaborate with APM Directors to develop plans for weekly engagement with young people, including those who are off-track, difficult to locate, or in need of safety discussions.
  • Ensure regular contact with young individuals on the Non-Fatal Shooting Victim Outreach list who have not yet been deemed eligible for a TR-Caseload.
  • Identify newly recognized non-fatal shooting victims as reported by the Police Department.
  • Conduct initial eligibility assessments and vetting for individuals on the Non-Fatal Shooting Victim Outreach List.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to gather updated information from partners for locating young individuals.

Qualifications:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience accepted. Minimum of three years of direct service experience with high-risk youth.
  • EXPERIENCE: Proven understanding and experience working with street-involved, high-risk youth.
  • Valid Driver's License or access to public transportation required.
