POSITION SUMMARY:

This executive role is accountable for ensuring underwriting excellence and integrity by adhering to best practices within the commercial middle markets (P&C multi-line packaged accounts) sector in the Southeast region. The position involves directing the execution of strategic and operational objectives aligned with the company's long-term vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume full accountability for underwriting and achieving production and profitability targets for the designated region, collaborating with leading distribution firms to foster profitable growth.
  • Operate within established underwriting authority and guidelines to enhance underwriting, operational, and transactional excellence across the region.
  • Delegate responsibilities to subordinate underwriters and collaborate with the Property and Casualty divisions to manage referral thresholds and establish clear accountability pathways.
  • Engage with senior sales and production leaders to optimize growth opportunities with agents and brokers.
  • Lead and manage the team within the area of responsibility, focusing on talent management, succession planning, and skill development in line with strategic objectives.
  • Oversee all aspects of underwriter performance, promoting a high-performance culture within the region.
  • Implement strategic and operational objectives that significantly impact the success of multiple products in the region.
  • Evaluate underwriting performance through quarterly assessments of profit, production, retention, and agency performance, providing insights to management and formulating plans to address any issues.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Reporting Structure:

Typically reports to the Senior Vice President or higher.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Expertise in underwriting practices and a comprehensive understanding of the insurance industry.
  2. Exceptional communication skills essential for building consensus across various teams and stakeholders.
  3. Strong leadership and management capabilities, demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
  4. Adept at identifying and resolving significant challenges within the scope of responsibility.
  5. In-depth knowledge of the insurance sector, including its products and services.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other relevant business software.
  7. Thorough understanding of the assigned business line and the insurance landscape.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in a related field.
  2. Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, including at least seven years in a management role.
  3. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation is preferred.
