POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Regional Underwriting is responsible for ensuring underwriting excellence and integrity by adhering to best practices for commercial middle market (P&C multi-line packaged accounts) within the Southeast region. This role involves directing the execution of strategic and operational objectives aligned with the company's long-term vision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role, you will undertake a variety of responsibilities in line with departmental protocols:
- Assume full accountability for underwriting and achieving production and profitability targets within the designated region, collaborating with leading distribution firms to drive profitable growth.
- Operate within established underwriting authority and guidelines to promote operational and transactional excellence throughout the underwriting process across the region.
- Delegate authority to subordinate underwriters while partnering with the Property and Casualty groups to establish referral thresholds and clear accountability paths within the hierarchy.
- Collaborate with senior sales and production leaders to maximize growth opportunities with agents and brokers in the territory.
- Lead and manage staff in the area of responsibility, focusing on talent management, succession planning, and skill development in line with strategic objectives.
- Take ownership of underwriter performance to foster a high-performance culture within the region.
- Drive the implementation of strategic and operational objectives that significantly impact the success of multiple products within the region.
- Analyze underwriting performance through quarterly evaluations of profit, production, retention, agency performance, and cross-sell opportunities, presenting findings to management and developing plans to address any issues.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position typically reports to the Senior Vice President or higher.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
1. Expertise in underwriting principles and a comprehensive understanding of the insurance industry and related areas.
2. Advanced communication skills essential for building consensus across various teams and relationships.
3. Strong leadership and management capabilities demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
4. Proven ability to drive results by identifying and resolving significant challenges within the scope of responsibility.
5. In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, its products, and services.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other relevant business software.
7. Strong understanding of the assigned business line and the insurance sector.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in a related field or equivalent experience.
2. A minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience, including at least seven years in a management role.
3. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation is preferred.
