Child Welfare Assistant
This role is essential within the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Annual Salary:
Level I H16A - $29, Full State Employee Benefits
Level II H16B - $31, Full State Employee Benefits
Level III H16C - $34, Full State Employee Benefits
Travel is extensive. A valid driver's license and maintained car insurance are required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Child Welfare Assistant I: Requires six months of experience in general office clerical work, child care in a licensed facility, sales, or public contact roles.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, substituting one of the following: (a) six months of technical or vocational training course work; or (b) completion of 15 semester hours from a college or university.

Child Welfare Assistant II: Requires one year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services environment.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, substituting thirty semester hours of college for the required experience.

Child Welfare Assistant III: Requires one year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services environment plus two additional years of clerical experience in a child welfare setting.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, substituting thirty semester hours of college for the required experience.

Job Responsibilities:

This position entails a comprehensive range of paraprofessional tasks, executing various Child Welfare case management activities, including providing support to Child Welfare Specialists, clients, and their families.

Responsibilities include scheduling necessary appointments for medical visits, family interactions, court appearances, and other relevant events; arranging or providing transportation for children and clients.

This may involve coordinating referrals to other program areas, service providers, and the judicial system; assisting in problem resolution, and conducting home visits to aid CWS in evaluating foster care placements as mandated by the court or individualized service plans.

Interviews with clients and their families will be conducted to report findings that may influence medical, financial, tribal affiliation, and psychiatric care and treatment plans to the assigned CWS.

Administrative support tasks and related duties include general office responsibilities, inputting case documentation, compiling social and economic data, scheduling, and assisting in meetings with clients, parents, and other stakeholders.

Providing clients with information on available child welfare services and resources is crucial; specific program details may be shared, and referrals to community resources for assistance may be made.

Assisting CWS in case management during client meetings, obtaining additional services such as daycare or medical care; coordinating activities with law enforcement, courts, and other entities; and providing reports to the courts are essential functions.

Advocacy for clients in securing services may be part of the role; maintaining communication among clients, providers, families, and others; and assisting clients in achieving individualized service plans may also be required.
