POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Practical Nursing Specialist, you will deliver essential nursing services and facilitate comprehensive medical and psychiatric care for clients at Oklahoma Mental Health Council dba Red Rock Behavioral Health Services. Your role is crucial in ensuring clients receive consistent and effective care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct thorough nursing evaluations to determine client needs and formulate care plans. Provide treatment for both ongoing and urgent health conditions. Assess medical suitability for admission and continuously evaluate during the client's stay. Collaborate with the Psychiatrist when there are changes in medical conditions, ensuring appropriate referrals are made to higher levels of care as necessary.
  • Administer medications and maintain accurate clinical documentation. Monitor, record, and take appropriate actions based on client responses to medications and therapeutic interventions.
  • Supervise the activities and responsibilities of Mental Health Assistants assigned to your shifts.
  • Review and track client progress through case supervision and collaboration with other programs, agencies, and medical professionals regarding client welfare.
  • Document care in accordance with nursing standards, agency policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in the daily assessment of clients' mental health status.
  • Perform a variety of professional nursing tasks under the guidance of the Psychiatrist, including the collection of routine lab specimens, administration of injectable and emergency medications, and communication with pharmacies regarding medication orders.
  • Maintain core competencies related to co-occurring disorders through ongoing education and the application of skills in all treatment aspects.
  • Conduct counts and documentation of locked PRN medications each shift under the supervision of the registered nurse on duty.
  • Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay informed about agency policies, regulations, and procedures; engage in continuous in-service training and relevant external training.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Support and assist in the facilitation of Care Plans for clients within the Red Rock Health Team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Oklahoma.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in physical assessment skills and the ability to manage medical emergencies.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts.
  • Dedication to the mission of Oklahoma Mental Health Council dba Red Rock Behavioral Health Services.
  • Preferred one year of experience, particularly in the administration of psychotropic medications.
  • Familiarity with psychiatric nursing practices, techniques, and procedures is preferred.
  • Experience in a psychiatric environment is preferred.
  • Certification in mental health nursing is preferred.
