Position Overview:
  • This role primarily focuses on our Pediatric Cancer Center, with occasional assistance in inpatient units.
Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related discipline.
  • Completion of clinical training requirements as outlined by the Association of Child Life Professionals.
Work Environment:
  • Well-lit, heated, and ventilated workspace.
  • Flexible hours to accommodate departmental needs.
  • Minimal risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Potential for work in various areas beyond primary responsibilities.
Team Collaboration:

A vital member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, working together to enhance family-centered and age-appropriate patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Pediatric/PICU Nurse Director and Child Life Coordinator, provide support to infants, children, adolescents, and families through evidence-based practices such as therapeutic play, preparation, and education to reduce fear, anxiety, and discomfort.

Certifications Required:
  • Completion of the Child Life Professional Certification Examination.
  • Current CPR Certification.
Physical Demands:
  • Regular standing, walking, lifting, and transporting supplies.
  • Moderate physical activity required.
  • Strong communication and auditory skills are essential.
  • Precise hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills are crucial.
  • Close visual acuity is necessary for record-keeping tasks.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Assess and prioritize the psychosocial needs of each patient.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding conditions, treatments, and coping strategies.
  • Encourage family-centered care by involving parents and relatives.
  • Supervise child life students and volunteers.
