Job Summary

GFL USA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Territory Sales Representative to promote and sell commercial and industrial solid waste services to businesses and industrial establishments in assigned territories.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sales and Business Development: Identify new market areas, maintain current customers, and develop strategies to outweigh competition.
  • Customer Relations: Travel throughout assigned territories to meet with existing and prospective customers to assess and manage customer needs.
  • Lead Generation: Compile and manage lists of prospective customers in the ACT database for use in sales leads through cold-calling and other techniques.
  • Market Penetration: Penetrate new and existing territory market areas to maintain and increase sales and market share.
  • Product Knowledge: Develop working knowledge of branch/regional profit and loss components and dynamics, including pricing services, calculating desired margins, and cost of service.
  • Quote and Contract Preparation: Provide price quotes and credit terms to potential customers and prepare sales contracts.
  • Customer Needs Analysis: Develop and exhibit proficiency in customer needs analysis, customer upgrades, and customer retention, and identifying major industrial needs in the areas of compaction application, including pricing, mechanical aptitude, and service capabilities.
  • Sales Presentations: Demonstrate proficiency in preparation and organization of sales presentations to major accounts by effectively displaying and demonstrating products and services and emphasizing marketable features.
  • Competitor Analysis: Maintain awareness of the activities of all competitors.
  • Pricing Adjustments: Assist with the identification and implementation of pricing adjustments for commercial accounts.
  • Waste Stream Analysis: Perform waste stream analysis to include estimation of volumes and recognition of waste streams requiring special handling or which can be recycled or diverted.
  • Business Development: Participate in business-related meetings, conferences, social functions, and civic organizations to boost the overall exposure of the Company.
  • Customer Liaison: Court, cultivate, secure, and act as liaison between large customers, municipal, and governmental sector business, including bid invitations and preliminary bid preparation.
  • Acquisition Support: Assist in identifying acquisition candidates and participate in the acquisition of and merging with targeted businesses.
  • Compliance: Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and other orders and to all company policies, procedures, and directives from supervisors.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from a four (4) year college or university is preferred.
  • Experience: Two (2) to three (3) years of sales experience with thorough knowledge of sales techniques along with proven sales closures.
  • Skills: Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical journals, or governmental regulations, ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals, ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public, ability to calculate figures and amounts, ability to create, design, and implement solutions to general and customer-specific problems, ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, ability to self-direct various assigned initiatives and to work under limited supervision.
