Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Traffic Monitor to join our team at the South Burlington Fire Department. As a Traffic Monitor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic on our premises.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage traffic flow and pedestrian safety during peak hours
  • Monitor bus and vehicle traffic lanes for proper flow and safety
  • Assist and/or direct pedestrians to safely navigate traffic
  • Report concerns to administration
  • Assess traffic flow and direct vehicles to minimize wait times
  • Provide traffic control and safety measures for pedestrians during peak transportation times
  • Direct traffic and implement student crossing procedures
  • Escort students and other pedestrians across bus lanes as necessary
  • Manage traffic using traffic control devices and hand signals
  • Report traffic concerns and safety hazards to appropriate personnel
  • Monitor and transmit information over a two-way radio
  • Assist in investigating traffic accidents on campus
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One to two years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge or experience with traffic control is desirable
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and general driving regulations
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication
  • Ability to apply general math concepts
  • Ability to identify problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently
  • Physical ability to perform all job duties
Work Environment

This position is primarily conducted outside and requires exposure to various environmental conditions, including dust, dirt, extreme heat, extreme cold, fumes, odors, viruses, infectious diseases, water, hazardous equipment, uneven terrain, outdoor weather conditions, and vibrating noise.
