Position Overview

This role is situated within the Lunar Transportation division, which is pivotal to our mission of establishing sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.

As a key member of a dedicated team comprising specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be responsible for preparing detailed assembly drawings for flight hardware components and ground support equipment, while also implementing design modifications using advanced CAD tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead your team in addressing complex designs that significantly influence the functionality and performance of subsystems critical to mission success.
  • Oversee a team of designers within the ECLS integrated product team, whether they are direct hires, seconded from other units, or contracted personnel.
  • Establish and uphold best practices, ensuring adherence across the team.
  • Implement Blue Origin's design processes, guiding the team through each phase.
  • Utilize strong problem-solving and organizational skills to navigate challenging designs, collaborating with your team and various disciplines.
  • Advance designs through engineering principles, including fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, and stress considerations, prior to formal evaluations.
  • Employ CAD tools (such as Creo and Windchill) to develop solutions from initial concepts to manufacturing readiness.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in your work.
  • Review team drawings and bills of materials for final release.
  • Utilize rapid prototyping techniques to iterate designs for mechanical, structural, fluid, and air systems.
  • Mentor junior designers, fostering their growth and development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency with CREO and Windchill software.
  • A minimum of five years of senior design experience.
  • Experience leading small technical teams.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. as a citizen, permanent resident, or refugee/asylee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Blue Origin's operational processes.
  • Experience in crewed spaceflight programs.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLS).
  • Experience with aerospace secondary structures and tube routing.

Compensation

The compensation range for applicants in Washington State is between $136,000 and $191,053.80.
