Position Summary:

This role is pivotal in shaping the future of space exploration, demanding a high level of commitment and meticulous attention to detail to ensure safe and repeatable space missions.

As a key member of a diverse and dedicated engineering team, you will lead the design efforts for valve systems within the Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) hardware for lunar landers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and evaluate valves for various ECLS subsystems, including:
    • Pressure Control
    • Air Handling and Revitalization
    • Water Processing and Distribution
    • Fire Suppression
    • Air and Water Quality Monitoring
    • Controls and Software
    • Human in the Loop Development and Testing
  • Specify valve types, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct mechanical, fluid, and electrical analyses focused on fluid flow systems.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to fabricate and test prototypes, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Manage multiple design and testing activities concurrently.
  • Engage with suppliers to define component specifications.
  • Transition prototypes into flight-ready hardware.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share expertise with the next generation of valve designers.
Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering, or a related field, along with:

  • 5+ years of experience in valve design and specification.
  • A solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, thermodynamic, and fluid systems.
  • Proficiency in advanced engineering techniques for ECLS valve development.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, design, and testing methodologies.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and CAD design tools such as Creo.
Preferred Qualifications:

Additional experience in the following areas is desirable:

  • 10+ years in valve design and specification.
  • Knowledge of aircraft or spacecraft life support systems.
  • Experience with electronic systems that integrate hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical aerospace hardware design.
  • Experience with high-reliability flight hardware for extreme environments.
  • Expertise in fabrication and quality control techniques.
  • Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
