Financial Operations Specialist

Theraplant is seeking a highly skilled Financial Operations Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and financial reporting, with the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger
- Prepare journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliations, meeting all process and reporting deadlines
- Manage and review AP transactions to ensure proper expense categorization and compliance with GAAP
- Ensure wholesale invoices are prepared accurately and in a timely manner, coordinating with sales and/or vault team as necessary
- Create weekly reports of past-due Accounts Receivable and follow up with customers accordingly, responsible for collecting past-due balances
- Ensure revenue, cost of sales, and general expenses are recorded accurately according to Internal Revenue Code Section 280E
- Assist with payroll processing, monthly close, and reporting processes
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal wage and hour laws, including overtime, holiday pay, income withholdings, etc.
- Provide benefit administration support to the Controller
- Ensure all employee changes are processed correctly, including promotions and transfers, wage changes, title changes, and other status changes to ensure all employee data is accurate and up-to-date
- Maintain time-off accruals by ensuring changes are processed, performing spot checks, and assisting employees with balance questions as needed
- Proactively initiate and assist with a variety of process improvements
- Provide additional support as needed to the Finance department
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the Controller
Requirements
- High school diploma required, bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred
- 3-5 years accounting experience with exceptional attention to detail required
- Industry experience in agriculture, manufacturing, distribution wholesale, and/or retail required, experience in the cannabis industry desired
- Proficient in QuickBooks Online required
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite required
- Must be solutions-oriented, with excellent time management skills, and able to prioritize tasks and multi-task as necessary; strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, with various stakeholders
