Reporting directly to the President & CEO and collaborating closely with the museum's Board of Directors, the Senior Vice President of Fundraising is tasked with overseeing the effective execution of all facets of Hiller Aviation Museum's fundraising initiatives. This role primarily emphasizes major gift programs aimed at capital projects and ongoing annual support, while also directing efforts to secure contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations for the museum's continuous operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works in partnership with the Executive Team, including the President & CEO and Board members, to enhance institutional fundraising capabilities and implement major gift strategies.
  • Formulates comprehensive fundraising plans and objectives that outline targeted strategies, including anticipated revenues and expenditures for each fiscal year.
  • Designs and executes effective cultivation strategies that advance prospects toward the solicitation and finalization of major gifts, ensuring proper stewardship and management of current donors while fostering relationships with potential major contributors.
  • Leads the Development department staff and oversees activities related to ongoing fundraising operations, including sponsorships, annual campaigns, fundraising events, and membership initiatives.
  • Recruits, trains, and orients volunteers to support fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Executive Team, including the President & CEO and the Board of Directors.
  • Assists in the recruitment of new Board members and Committee members.
Ideal Candidate Profile:

The perfect candidate will possess many of the following qualities:
  • A demonstrated history of success in fundraising with a reputable non-profit organization, particularly within the Bay Area, focusing on Silicon Valley and the Peninsula.
  • Proven success in securing major gifts from corporate, corporate foundation, family foundation, and individual donor communities.
  • Ability to effectively organize and engage Boards and Executive teams in enthusiastically executing fundraising strategies, including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting potential donors.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, high energy, self-confidence, and a collaborative approach with a stellar reputation among peers.
  • Leadership potential and ambition to take a central role in an organization's development function; high-potential individuals aspiring to such a role are encouraged to consider this opportunity.
  • Experience with educationally-focused non-profits, including museums, is advantageous but not required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with advanced education preferred.
  • Membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals and/or possession of a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification is likely.
