VICE PRESIDENT OF ADVANCEMENT

Anticipated hiring rate: $200,000 - $215,000 (commensurate with experience)

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice President of Advancement (VPA) reports directly to the Chancellor & Dean and plays a pivotal role within the College's executive team. The VPA is charged with spearheading the College's engagement and fundraising efforts, encompassing a comprehensive strategy for philanthropy and alumni relations. This position includes managing a personal portfolio of major and principal gift prospects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee the Office of Advancement, acting as the primary external representative of the department.
  • Supervise senior team members in development, alumni relations, and advancement operations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chancellor & Dean to cultivate and secure significant gifts.
  • Engage with the Foundation Board of Trustees to develop and implement volunteer-driven initiatives that enhance revenue streams aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Partner with the Executive Director of the Alumni Association to ensure a dynamic and strategic alumni engagement program.
  • Formulate and manage strategies for outreach, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and principal gift prospects and donors.
  • Foster relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and key volunteers to coordinate solicitation strategies.
  • Recruit Foundation Board members and volunteers to assist in donor/prospect cultivation and solicitation.
  • Strengthen connections with the Foundation governing bodies and the College's Board of Directors.
  • Personally engage with key prospects and travel as necessary for effective cultivation and solicitation.
  • Collaborate with the College's Center Directors to secure financial support from corporations, foundations, and other entities.
  • Report to the Chancellor & Dean and the College's governing Board of Directors regarding fundraising progress.
  • Implement best practices across all activities of the advancement office.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience in developing fundraising programs focused on individual major and principal gifts.
  • Proven experience in a leadership capacity during successful capital campaigns.
  • Experience in managing, motivating, and mentoring team members.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Proven track record in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding six-, seven-, and eight-figure gifts from individuals.
  • Significant achievements in fundraising through individual major and principal gifts.
  • Experience working with sophisticated volunteers and possessing a clear, engaging presentation style.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to write persuasively and listen actively.
  • Ability to inspire action and demonstrate commitment to higher education, particularly in legal education.
  • Knowledge of the Bay Area philanthropy community is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver's license required.
