The Opportunity
The Vice President of Operations (VPO) is accountable for the operational effectiveness of SPUR, ensuring that the organization's strategic plan is in harmony with its vision and mission through efficient operations.

The VPO will provide strategic guidance and operational management for SPUR's financial, human resources, communications, and public engagement departments, collaborating closely with the fundraising team to develop and implement the business strategy.

This role reports directly to the President & CEO and is an integral part of SPUR's senior leadership team.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of business operations and a strong background in strategic planning.

They will be a capable leader, providing direction that enhances organizational performance while aligning with SPUR's vision and culture.

The VPO will directly oversee SPUR's Communications, Engagement, Finance, and HR teams, in addition to managing contractors supporting the Finance function, building management, and recruitment initiatives.

Moreover, the VPO will collaborate with the CEO to actualize their vision for organizational development and growth, operationalizing these initiatives to propel the organization forward, while managing a dynamic portfolio of projects.

The VPO serves as a vital thought partner to the President & CEO on matters related to business and financial planning, organizational structure, and operational strategies for external effectiveness.

This position is suited for an individual with a profound understanding of aligning financial strategies with mission objectives; exceptional organizational management and interpersonal skills; a sharp strategic mindset; an asset-based approach to organizational growth; and a high level of proficiency in executing goals and strategies.

The candidate will be a connector, fostering a collaborative environment and setting the cultural tone for the organization.

Core Responsibilities
In partnership with senior leadership, develop and oversee the organization's business plan, including revenue and expense strategies.
Collaborate closely with the fundraising team to facilitate the execution of revenue strategies.
Inform organizational work plans to ensure alignment with the business plan and mission.
Design and implement mechanisms to evaluate SPUR's impact and competitiveness.
Directly manage and enhance the effectiveness of SPUR's business operations, recommending and executing improvements as necessary.
Oversee SPUR's communications and engagement functions, ensuring they maximize the organization's ability to achieve policy and fundraising objectives.
Supervise human resources operations, including training, employee development, and salary administration, and actively participate in recruitment processes.
Produce and analyze financial documents, statements, and reports to assess organizational performance against financial targets and identify potential risks.
Ensure the organization has the necessary resources to fulfill its mission.
Organize and coordinate operations to optimize productivity.
Supervise employee performance and provide constructive feedback to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Gather, analyze, and interpret both external and internal data to inform strategic decisions.
Assess overall organizational performance against established objectives.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws and standards.
Oversee building management.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
Support relevant committees of SPUR's Board of Directors, including Finance, Audit, and Investment.

Requirements & Skills
10+ years of professional experience.
Proven track record in a leadership role, ideally as a business manager or equivalent.
Exceptional organizational and leadership capabilities.
Strong problem-solving aptitude.
Robust financial management skills.
Effective written and verbal communication, coupled with strong interpersonal abilities.
Comprehensive understanding of diverse business processes and strategy development.
Experience in communications is preferred.
An MBA or equivalent nonprofit experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

Benefits
The salary range for this position is $175,000-$200,000, based on experience and qualifications.

This is a full-time, exempt position.
SPUR offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, basic life insurance, pre-tax commuter benefits, a work-from-home stipend, an employee assistance program (EAP), six months of paid maternity and paternity leave, and a retirement plan with a 25% contribution match.

Hybrid Work Environment

Mandatory all-staff in-person days are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays, with additional in-person meetings, events, and programs around the Bay Area as required.
