Job Overview

Salary: $17.00 per hour

The Community Engagement part-time role is pivotal in orchestrating and supporting Growing Home's comprehensive community outreach initiatives. This position is designed to inform and involve the public, partner organizations, and media regarding Growing Home's objectives, requirements, programs, and activities. You will collaborate closely with the Farm, Employment Training, and Development teams on outreach and community engagement efforts, under the supervision of the Community Engagement Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement and Events:
Under the guidance of the Community Engagement Coordinator, develop and implement the organization's community outreach strategy. This includes creating Standard Operating Procedures for various engagement programs. You will manage small volunteer groups during events, provide tours of Growing Home's Urban Farm, and conduct outreach to promote urban agriculture while engaging with local youth in the gardens. This role requires availability for 3-4 days a week, including evenings and weekends.

Plan and promote educational and engagement opportunities, which may involve coordinating workshops, training sessions, tours, and demonstrations for diverse stakeholders. Establish and nurture relationships with community organizations, nonprofits, community leaders, schools, and potential employers. Act as an assistant liaison to various committees and community groups, fostering connections with current and prospective funders and partners.

Food Access Initiatives:
Support the food access curriculum related to the Learning Garden, focusing on community education about healthy eating. Responsibilities include hosting workshops, cooking demonstrations, and healthy living classes.

Volunteer Program Management:
Lead and cultivate new collaborative volunteer partnerships by identifying, creating, and promoting ongoing volunteer engagement opportunities. Build and maintain relationships with community volunteers, manage volunteer data through Google Docs, and continuously enhance the volunteer program based on participant feedback.

Assessment and Evaluation:
Collaborate with the Community Engagement Coordinator to establish success metrics for all aspects of the Community Engagement programs. Maintain and create necessary documentation for processes and projects, ensuring accessibility for internal and external monitoring and compliance.

Communications and Public Relations:
Work alongside the Development team to design and execute a communication strategy focused on community engagement across traditional and social media platforms, aligning with Growing Home's vision and mission. Develop promotional materials to enhance community engagement activities, including flyers, postcards, and social media content. Foster effective communication with media representatives, citizens, and relevant government officials to maximize Growing Home's brand visibility.

Additional Duties:
Represent Growing Home at networking events and meetings, cultivating relationships with current donors through participation in site visits and fundraising activities as needed.

Qualifications

Proven ability to build long-term relationships with diverse stakeholders in a positive and engaging manner. Strong planning, creation, and leadership skills for programs that address community needs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Proficient computer skills, including experience with Google Docs and Canva; familiarity with newsletter and design tools is a plus. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is necessary. Some travel for meetings may be required, with a willingness to navigate public transportation or possess a valid driver's license.

This position offers approximately 20 hours of work per week, with a flexible schedule as determined by the Community Engagement Coordinator.
