Job Overview

The Community Engagement part-time role is essential for orchestrating and supporting Growing Home's comprehensive community outreach initiatives. This position is designed to inform and involve the public, partner organizations, and media regarding Growing Home's objectives, requirements, programs, and activities. Collaborating closely with the Farm, Employment Training, and Development teams, you will engage in outreach and community involvement efforts, reporting directly to the Community Engagement Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement and Events:
Under the guidance of the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will develop and implement the organization's community outreach strategy. This includes creating Standard Operating Procedures for various programs managed by the Engagement team. You will also:
- Supervise small groups of volunteers during events.
- Conduct tours of Growing Home's Urban Farm for visitors.
- Engage in community outreach to promote urban agriculture.
- Collaborate with local youth in gardening activities.
- Availability for work 3-4 days a week, including evenings and weekends.
- Organize and promote educational and engagement opportunities, including workshops, training sessions, and demonstrations for diverse stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, nonprofit entities, community leaders, educational institutions, and potential employers.
- Act as an assistant liaison to various committees and community groups, fostering connections with current and prospective funders and partners.

Food Access Initiatives:
Assist in implementing the food access curriculum related to the Learning Garden, focusing on community education regarding healthy eating. Responsibilities include:
- Hosting workshops and cooking demonstrations.
- Leading healthy living classes.

Volunteer Program Management:
Develop and oversee collaborative volunteer partnerships by:
- Identifying, creating, and promoting volunteer engagement opportunities.
- Cultivating relationships with community volunteers.
- Managing volunteer data through Google Docs and continuously enhancing the volunteer program based on participant feedback.

Assessment and Evaluation:
Collaborate with the Community Engagement Coordinator to establish success metrics for all aspects of the Community Engagement programs. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and creating necessary documentation for processes and projects.
- Ensuring accessibility of documentation for internal and external monitoring and compliance.

Communications and Public Relations:
Work alongside the Development team to design and execute a communication strategy that emphasizes community engagement through traditional and social media, aligning with Growing Home's vision and mission. This includes:
- Creating promotional materials for community engagement activities, such as flyers and fact sheets.
- Establishing effective communication channels with media representatives, citizens, and government officials.
- Enhancing Growing Home's brand visibility and collaborating with the Development team to craft impactful messaging that encourages participation and attendance at events.

Additional Duties:
Represent Growing Home at networking events and meetings, nurturing relationships with current donors through site visits and fundraising activities as required.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven ability to foster long-term relationships with diverse stakeholders in a positive and engaging manner.
- Strong planning and leadership skills for programs that respond to community needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Google Docs and Canva; experience in newsletter design is a plus.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel for meetings, utilizing public transportation or possessing a valid driver's license.
