Position Summary: The role of the Outreach Worker is critical in addressing and mitigating violence within communities. This position requires a proactive individual capable of engaging with high-risk populations and implementing strategies to foster peace and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather intelligence on potential conflicts within at-risk neighborhoods.
  • Develop and implement strategic action plans aimed at conflict resolution.
  • Participate in regular meetings with fellow outreach workers and violence interrupters.
  • Engage daily with high-risk individuals and groups to discuss and address pressing issues.
  • Work diligently to prevent violent incidents and mitigate potential retaliatory actions.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key community stakeholders.
  • Refer individuals to case managers for comprehensive support services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of conflict resolutions.
  • Encourage participation in program activities among community members.
  • Attend community response initiatives as required.
  • Build rapport with individuals at the highest risk of violence and those connected to them.
  • Document all interactions with high-risk individuals on a daily basis.
  • Identify and address areas prone to violence.
  • Investigate the underlying causes of violent incidents to assist in mediation efforts and prevent further conflicts.
  • Conduct outreach to strengthen community ties with residents, businesses, and organizations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to foster trust and understanding.
  • Utilize restorative practices to de-escalate conflicts and promote resolution.
  • Collaborate closely with the Street Outreach team and the Crisis Response Support Network.
  • Work as part of a cohesive team to reduce incidents of violence.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation of all client interactions.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to discuss progress and strategies.
  • Represent the Puerto Rican Cultural Center in discussions with media, community leaders, and public officials regarding violence prevention strategies.
  • Engage in collaborative violence prevention efforts with other service providers as assigned.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as designated by the Program Coordinator.

This position mandates adherence to all organizational standards, including conduct policies and regulatory compliance. Compliance will be evaluated as part of the performance review process.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with at-risk youth and adults, particularly those affected by gang involvement, is essential.
  • Individuals with personal experiences overcoming violence or incarceration are encouraged to apply, provided they have been out of incarceration for at least 24 months.
  • Understanding of urban youth issues, particularly youth violence and juvenile justice, is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with at-risk populations is necessary, with at least 1 year in case management or violence interruption preferred.
  • Possession of a reliable vehicle, valid insurance, and a clean driving record is required throughout employment.

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred; candidates currently pursuing their GED/diploma will also be considered.

Working Conditions:

This position does not involve regular exposure to blood or bodily fluids, and tasks requiring such exposure are not a condition of employment.

Compensation:

Salary: $45,000
