Field Estimator for Utility Projects

This role involves delivering comprehensive estimating, planning, and design assistance to our clients in the Electric Utility sector. The responsibilities encompass collaborating with individual utility customers, engaging with larger entities such as municipalities and transportation agencies, and addressing requests from internal utility stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop electrical power designs in compliance with NESC and GO 95 standards, as well as our clients' internal guidelines.
  • Utilize design expertise to create design deliverables for the installation, replacement, and enhancement of power distribution systems.
  • Evaluate engineering challenges using both customer-supplied and independent tools, providing timely and effective solutions while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, utility clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Create electrical construction plans for various project types, including New Customer Services, Subdivision Developments, Overhead Reconductors, Pole Replacements, Solar and Net Metering Upgrades, and Underground facility replacements.
  • Engage with clients and conduct site visits as necessary to collect relevant information.
  • Employ Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, including AutoCAD and GIS-based drafting tools.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Commitment to fulfilling client needs.
  • Familiarity with OH/UG utility operations is advantageous.
  • Electrical knowledge is preferred.
  • Willingness to work additional hours, including weekends, to meet client demands and deadlines.
  • Ability to create and interpret construction drawings and utilize various mapping software.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as Spida Calc, Ocalc, Cyme, and tools for cable pulling calculations and power quality assessments.
Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the electrical or utility sector is preferred.
  • A degree in a related field is advantageous.
Pre-Screening:
  • Successful candidates may be required to complete a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and/or MVR check.
Licenses & Certifications:
  • A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) class "C" is required.
Travel Requirements:
  • Regular local travel (by vehicle).
Physical Requirements:
  • RARE (less than 10%): stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, gripping, balancing.
  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): standing, sitting, manual dexterity, lifting between 10 lbs. and 50 lbs.
  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): walking.
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): clear speaking, reading, hearing within speech range.
