Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Facilities Manager to join our team at the City of South Burlington, VT. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the City's municipal properties, including the operation of buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Facilities Superintendent in the management of the City's properties, including maintenance, cleanliness, and operation of buildings.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee facility modifications, including estimates for equipment, labor, materials, and other related costs.
  • Routinely assess vendors, contracts, operations, and expenses to ensure the City is receiving the best possible pricing from qualified vendors.
  • Seek improvement in services, reduction in expenses, and implementation of energy-saving measures.
  • Evaluate vendors, solicit bids, and make recommendations to the Facilities Superintendent.
  • Make recommendations for facilities capital improvements projects.
  • Assist in safety activities under the direction of the Facilities Superintendent and in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Support facilities maintenance operations, including contracted services for all City buildings, while maintaining general knowledge of health and safety standards.
  • Help coordinate all security services with input from fire and police, enforce security policies and procedures, and assist with compilation of post-action reports of safety drills and other safety incidents.
  • Temporarily fill in for custodial staff as needed.
  • Monitor all delegated operations within assigned areas of responsibility.
Requirements
  • Associates degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Public Works Administration, or a related field, plus 5 years of building trades, construction, or related field experience required.
  • Must have a valid Vermont driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of tools, equipment, and protocols used in building maintenance programs.
  • Strong customer service and vendor skills, with an emphasis on service and building and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrate and maintain any required competencies needed for buildings.
