Job Summary

The City of South Burlington, VT is seeking a highly skilled Facilities Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for the management of our municipal properties, ensuring the smooth operation of our buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Facilities Superintendent in the management of city properties, including maintenance, cleanliness, and operation of buildings.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee facility modifications, including estimates for equipment, labor, materials, and other related costs.
  • Act as project manager for facilities-related projects, including equipment replacements and upgrades, department renovations, and city building additions and renovations.
  • Routinely assess vendors, contracts, operations, and expenses to ensure the city is getting the best possible pricing from qualified vendors.
  • Seek improvement in services, reduction in expenses, and implementation and reduction in energy consumption.
  • Evaluate vendors, solicit bids, and make recommendations to the Facilities Superintendent.
  • Make recommendations for facilities capital improvements projects.
  • Assist in safety activities under the direction of the Facilities Superintendent and in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Support facilities maintenance operations, including contracted services for all city buildings while maintaining general knowledge of health and safety standards.
  • Help coordinate all security services with input from fire and police, enforce security policies and procedures.
  • Assist with compilation of post-action reports of safety drills and other safety incidents with Facilities Superintendent.
  • Help train and support staff. Temporarily fill in for custodial staff as needed.
  • Monitor all delegated operations within assigned areas of responsibility.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Public Works Administration, or a related field, plus 5 years of building trades, construction, or related field experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered.
  • Valid Vermont driver's license.
