GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Salvation Army operates as a segment of the Christian Church, with the primary objective of fostering spiritual renewal among all individuals.

ROLE FUNCTION:

In the capacity of Senior Center Coordinator, you will hold an administrative role responsible for the development and management of programs tailored for seniors attending the center. Your responsibilities will encompass the planning, facilitation, and oversight of daily activities, excursions, and special events for the facility. Additional duties include budget management, record maintenance, and report preparation. You will also be tasked with recruiting volunteers and representing the senior center within the community, including organizing fundraising initiatives to support the center's financial needs. Furthermore, establishing connections with local agencies that cater to seniors will be essential to evaluate and enhance our service offerings.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility in hours is available, typically from 7 am - 3:30 pm or 7:30 am - 4 pm.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  1. High school diploma with proven experience in overseeing and coordinating activities for the senior demographic.
  2. Preferred experience in social services or senior care, though not mandatory.
  3. Proficient reading and writing skills in English.
  4. Experience working with diverse client backgrounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid WA Driver License.
  2. Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check.
  3. Compliance with The Salvation Army's child protection policies is required.
  4. Understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission and practices.
  5. Familiarity with photography and videography tools and editing software.
  6. Knowledge of various social media platforms.
  7. Capability to plan, direct, and assess volunteer work.
  8. Ability to work independently or collaboratively with staff.
  9. Maintain composure in challenging situations.
  10. Preferred certifications in First Aid & CPR, Food Handlers permit, and Bloodborne Pathogens training, obtainable within the first 90 days of employment.
  11. Experience in volunteer management.
  12. Ability to sustain existing programs and innovate new ones.
  13. Demonstrated leadership skills.
  14. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and a team player.
  15. Ability to organize tasks with minimal supervision.
  16. Flexibility in work habits and collaboration with coworkers.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS:
  1. Maintain attendance and program statistics; prepare monthly reports.
  2. Process and deposit all program fees and donations daily.
  3. Manage public relations and promotional activities for the Senior Center.
  4. Contribute weekly articles to local publications.
  5. Draft communications to community groups regarding available programs.
  6. Create brochures and informational materials for new initiatives.
  7. Update program information regularly.
  8. Develop monthly calendars of activities.
  9. Establish goals for Senior Center programs and work towards maximizing income.
  10. Ensure all records and files are current.
  11. Stay informed about new programs and techniques.
  12. Handle all correspondence related to the Senior Center.
  13. Collaborate with service groups and community organizations on program offerings.
  14. Address suggestions, incidents, and complaints professionally.
  15. Coordinate transportation needs for senior center activities.
  16. Keep management informed about program activities and facility requirements.
  17. Act as a resource for information on social services for seniors.
  18. Demonstrate effective program planning and management skills.
  19. Engage with a diverse age range of individuals.
  20. Maintain updated client information in relevant systems.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
  1. Develop high-quality programs to meet the needs of seniors in the local area.
  2. Establish schedules and registration processes for senior programs.
  3. Follow established lesson objectives and formats.
  4. Implement evaluations for instructors and programs.
  5. Create themed events and field trips for seniors.
  6. Support corps and community center programs as necessary.
VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT:
  1. Recruit and train volunteers to assist with senior center operations.
  2. Coordinate with staff for additional support when needed.
  3. Supervise volunteers, assigning tasks and managing schedules.
OUTREACH INITIATIVES:
  1. Network with external agencies providing services to seniors.
  2. Visit seniors unable to participate in center activities.
SEASONAL ACTIVITIES:
  1. Assist with seasonal initiatives, particularly during holiday efforts.
  2. Coordinate events to promote community engagement.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  1. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  2. Data entry skills for client information management.
  3. Basic internet navigation skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to perform various physical activities including sitting, walking, and lifting.
  2. Capability to operate office equipment and computers.
  3. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  4. Ability to access and retrieve information from a computer.
  5. Ability to understand and interpret written information.
  6. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
