POSITION SUMMARY

The Bilingual Tenant Resource Advocate plays a vital role within Supportive Housing environments. These locations are where Boston Senior Home Care collaborates with housing authorities or management organizations to deliver essential resident services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all residents. The Advocate will ensure that tenants can live safely and comfortably in their homes, facilitating connections and referrals to a range of community services while overseeing the delivery of these services.

This role involves assisting residents with various needs, including appointment scheduling, community resource referrals, and coordinating transportation and translation services. The Advocate will also be responsible for organizing and managing all activities related to the supportive housing program. Close collaboration with property management and resident services coordinators is essential to identify residents requiring additional support, including home care services, and to address tenancy issues to prevent eviction.

The responsibilities of the Tenant Resource Advocate align with the outlined job functions, with site assignments determined by the Program Manager or Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Act as a knowledgeable resource for assigned Supportive Housing buildings, providing information on consumer and governmental resources to residents while fostering self-sufficiency and dignity.
  2. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with on-site Supportive Housing partners, including property management and maintenance staff.
  3. Receive training to lead Evidence-Based Workshops and co-facilitate training sessions for residents.
  4. Communicate vital information to residents by creating and maintaining a monthly events calendar and newsletter, ensuring accessibility in languages that reflect the primary cultural demographics of the building.
  5. Maintain a secure office environment within the assigned building(s) to protect confidential information.
  6. Collect, report, and analyze statistical data accurately and promptly for internal use and compliance with partner and funder requirements, utilizing this data for ongoing program enhancement.
  7. Develop outreach initiatives to identify residents in crisis situations (such as eviction or exploitation) who may need community-based interventions.
  8. Plan and execute engaging social activities, workshops, and educational programs, including films, arts and crafts, games, and wellness initiatives, while involving residents in the planning and execution of these activities.
  9. Document interactions with residents and maintain comprehensive resident files in accordance with organizational standards.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Community Housing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates within a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands for this role include the ability to lift 15 to 20 lbs, regular communication, and frequent standing, walking, and reaching.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time role, with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require up to 25% travel to visit residents in their homes, which may have limited accessibility, and travel under various weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, gerontology, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in elder care case management is necessary.
  • Fluency in both English and Portuguese, both spoken and written, is required.

WORK AUTHORIZATION

  • Must pass a CORI background check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
