Housing Support Specialist

Pine Street Inn's Permanent Supportive Housing Division offers extensive, focused case management services to individuals facing homelessness and chronic housing instability, utilizing the Housing First approach to foster lasting housing solutions and combat homelessness in the community.
The Housing Support Specialist collaborates within a dedicated case management team, assisting tenants who may be dealing with untreated mental health issues, substance use disorders, and other significant health challenges. This role employs a Harm Reduction and Trauma-Informed framework, incorporating Stages of Change Theory and Motivational Interviewing strategies. The Specialist is accountable for managing a designated caseload of tenants while also working alongside other housing personnel to enhance the stability and personal development of all individuals supported by Pine Street Inn.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist tenants in completing necessary program documentation.
- Guide tenants in accessing benefits, healthcare, educational resources, employment opportunities, and legal assistance.
- Support tenants in developing daily living skills and creating personalized service plans while maintaining all required documentation.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
PREFERRED:
- College degree.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Strong dedication to applying Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing techniques to enhance tenants' behavioral health.
- Familiarity with effective Crisis Intervention methods and the ability to respond appropriately during crises.
- Experience in collaborative team environments.
PREFERRED:
- Experience supporting individuals with substance use issues, mental health challenges, trauma, homelessness, or other complex conditions.
- Background in working with chronically homeless individuals within Housing First initiatives.
- Awareness of local support and advocacy resources for individuals facing substance use, mental health issues, trauma, physical disabilities, and legal challenges.
- Understanding of government benefits systems and local service providers.
- Experience with Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS).
