Position Overview

The Veterans Housing Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting veterans facing homelessness by providing essential outreach, housing search, and case management services. This position is integral to the Veterans Outreach Team and collaborates closely with various support teams to ensure comprehensive care for veterans.

Key Responsibilities

The specialist will:

  • Conduct proactive outreach to homeless veterans, offering support and resources.
  • Facilitate housing applications and connect veterans to transitional housing and rental assistance programs.
  • Provide case management services, including access to legal aid, financial support, and employment resources.
  • Maintain accurate client records and ensure compliance with program outcomes related to housing stability.
  • Engage with veterans in diverse settings, including shelters and community programs, to provide tailored support.

The Veterans Housing Support Specialist will adhere to the following principles:

  • Advocate for veterans' access to housing and essential services.
  • Utilize a strengths-based approach to empower clients in their recovery journey.
  • Recognize the impact of trauma and employ a trauma-informed care model.
  • Promote cultural competency and sensitivity in all interactions.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing.

Experience:

  • At least two years of experience in human services, mental health, or substance use counseling.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of veterans' services and challenges.
  • Experience with case management for vulnerable populations.

Preferred Skills:

  • Military background.
  • Familiarity with HMIS systems.
  • Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish).
Physical Requirements

The role requires the ability to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Travel to various community locations.
