The Housing Support Specialist for the HEARTH (Helping to Empower and Resettle Through Housing) Program plays a crucial role in assisting families transitioning from shelters to permanent housing. This position focuses on providing essential support and resources to ensure families achieve stability and work towards self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and implement program guidelines to ensure adherence to established standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all privacy regulations concerning client information.
  • Facilitate communication by providing services in the client's preferred language, utilizing interpreter services when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Housing team to create tailored housing plans, empowering families to actively engage in their housing search.
  • Assist families in setting up their new homes, ensuring that essential furnishings and personal items are in place prior to their move-in.
  • Provide transportation or coordinate travel for families to their new residences, conducting safety orientations within a day of their placement.
  • Support families in establishing utility accounts with local service providers as required.
  • Complete all necessary procedures for family placements, including educating families on lease agreements and housing safety measures.
  • Work alongside the Housing team to foster positive relationships with landlords and property managers.
  • Conduct regular case management sessions with adult family members to monitor progress towards self-sufficiency.
  • Adhere to guidelines for family stabilization post-placement, including conducting home visits to ensure compliance with agency standards.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain organized case files and thorough documentation of client interactions and referrals.
  • Engage in both office work and field interactions with clients, requiring frequent travel.
  • Uphold professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including refugees and the homeless, is preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish are advantageous.
  • Strong listening and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Cultural sensitivity and a commitment to equity and inclusion in a diverse workplace.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new responsibilities.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
