Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Gas Foreman is responsible for leading the crew in executing daily tasks related to the installation and maintenance of natural gas pipelines and joint trench utilities for power and telecommunications. This role ensures crew safety and productivity, oversees the installation and pressure testing of both mainline and service line gas piping, and conducts routine safety inspections and documentation. The Gas Foreman supervises the Line team and collaborates with customers, senior management, and personnel from other departments.
  • Direct and coordinate crew activities for the installation of natural gas pipelines using open-cut or directional drilling methods.
  • Secure all necessary licenses, permits, and materials for each project.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and is completed on time.
  • Assign daily tasks to crew members related to excavation and product placement.
  • Facilitate access to site buildings for the work crew and coordinate utility calls at each project site.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to promote safe work practices.
  • Complete all required paperwork promptly.
  • Train new hires and apprentices in the trade.
  • Track employee hours and submit payroll information on time.
  • Call in utilities located at each project site.
  • Inspect existing utilities to ensure proper identification and exposure, confirming that piping is installed and fused according to customer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Operate equipment to assist crews in completing work at job sites.
  • Maintain project timelines, ensure job site cleanliness, and perform restoration at project completion.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and inspectors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in gas pipeline construction or maintenance, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in fusing, tapping, pressure testing, and purging.
  • Possession of a CDL Class A license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Knowledge of gas and safe working practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret project specifications and blueprints.
  • Proficiency in all phases of pipeline construction.
  • Adherence to safety standards and procedures according to MasTec and/or project customer requirements.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with inspectors.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment and general construction practices.
  • Ability to visually inspect fusion or welded joints and identify utility markings.
  • Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Atmos Gas is preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position operates in a field environment and requires physical activity, including extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Employees may work in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and possess clarity of vision for distance and close-up tasks.
