Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Gas Foreman is responsible for leading the crew in executing daily tasks related to the installation and maintenance of natural gas pipelines and joint trench utilities for power and telecommunications, ensuring safety and accuracy. This role includes overseeing crew safety and productivity, installing and pressure testing both mainline and service line gas pipes, and conducting routine safety inspections and documentation. The Gas Foreman supervises the Line team and collaborates with customers, senior management, and other departments.
- Direct and coordinate crew activities for the installation of natural gas pipelines using open-cut or directional drilling methods.
- Secure all necessary licenses, permits, and materials for each project.
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and timelines, taking full responsibility for project execution.
- Assign daily tasks to crew members related to excavation and product placement.
- Facilitate access to site buildings for the work crew and coordinate utility call-ins at each project location.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to promote safe work practices.
- Complete all required paperwork promptly.
- Train new hires and apprentices in the trade.
- Track employee hours and submit payroll information in a timely manner.
- Call in utilities at each project site.
- Inspect existing utilities to ensure proper identification and exposure, confirming that piping is installed correctly and meets customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Operate equipment to assist crews in completing work on-site.
- Maintain project timelines, ensure job site cleanliness, and perform restoration tasks upon project completion.
- Communicate effectively with customers and inspectors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of experience in gas pipeline construction or maintenance, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proficiency in fusing, tapping, pressure testing, and purging.
- Possession of a CDL Class A license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- Knowledge of gas and safe working practices.
- Ability to read and interpret customer specifications and blueprints.
- Proficiency in all phases of line construction.
- Adherence to safety standards and procedures as per MasTec and/or project customer guidelines.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with inspectors.
- Experience operating heavy equipment and general construction practices.
- Ability to visually inspect fusion or welded joints and identify utility markings.
- Clarity of vision at varying distances and the ability to judge spatial relationships.
- Precise hand-eye coordination and color differentiation skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Experience with Atmos Gas is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position operates in a field environment and requires physical activity, including prolonged periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting, often in challenging weather conditions. The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and possess the ability to distinguish colors and maintain clarity of vision at various distances.
