Key Responsibilities
The Underground Utility Supervisor is responsible for leading a team in executing daily operations related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines, ensuring the distribution of electricity from the plant or station to the meter base, as well as auxiliary facilities and equipment. This role involves interpreting project blueprints and overseeing production, while prioritizing crew safety and collaborating with other departments.
- Secure all necessary materials for projects and ensure that all permits and licenses are obtained.
- Oversee project-related work, taking full responsibility for quality and timeliness.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures, adhering to the higher standard between MasTec and customer requirements.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections, ensuring that all team members understand safety protocols.
- Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members involved in excavation and installation.
- Execute switching procedures to isolate, insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines while following safety protocols.
- Manage the connection, disconnection, installation, and removal of various electrical devices at customer facilities, including transformers and regulators.
- Accurately phase and mark/tag underground equipment.
- Operate equipment to assist crews in completing their work at job sites.
- Train new hires and apprentices in the trade.
- Coordinate with utility companies for project site assessments.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in operating heavy equipment and general construction.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6 or more years of experience, particularly in supervising and training skilled labor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a field environment, requiring extended periods of physical activity, including bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Employees may work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
To successfully perform the essential functions of this role, employees must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, possess clarity of vision at varying distances, and demonstrate precise hand-eye coordination.
