Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Gas Foreman is responsible for leading a crew in the safe and efficient installation and maintenance of natural gas pipelines and joint trench utilities for power and telecommunications. This role ensures crew safety and productivity while overseeing the installation and pressure testing of both mainline and service line gas piping, along with conducting routine safety inspections and maintaining documentation.
  • Supervise and coordinate crew activities for the installation of natural gas pipelines using open-cut or directional drilling techniques.
  • Secure all necessary licenses, permits, and materials for each project.
  • Ensure high-quality work standards and timely completion of all projects.
  • Assign daily tasks to crew members related to excavation and installation.
  • Facilitate access to work sites and coordinate utility calls for each project.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to promote safe work practices.
  • Complete all required paperwork promptly.
  • Train new employees and apprentices in the trade.
  • Track and submit employee hours for payroll accurately.
  • Inspect existing utilities to ensure proper identification and exposure, confirming compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Operate equipment as needed to assist crews in completing their tasks.
  • Maintain project timelines, ensuring clean-up and restoration at job completion.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and inspectors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in gas pipeline construction or maintenance, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in fusing, tapping, pressure testing, and purging.
  • Possession of a CDL Class A license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Knowledge of gas safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret project specifications and blueprints.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all phases of pipeline construction.
  • Adherence to safety standards and practices as per MasTec and project customer requirements.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate with inspectors.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery and general construction practices.
  • Ability to visually inspect fusion or welded joints and identify utility markings.
  • Good vision and hand-eye coordination, with the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Atmos Gas is a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a field environment, requiring physical stamina for tasks such as bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Employees may encounter extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind. The role demands the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and requires good vision and coordination.
