Key Responsibilities

The Underground Utilities Supervisor is responsible for leading the crew in executing daily operations related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines, extending from the plant/station to the meter base, as well as auxiliary facilities and equipment for electricity distribution. This role involves interpreting project blueprints and ensuring production efficiency. The supervisor oversees the Line team, prioritizes crew safety, and collaborates with other departments.

  • Acquire all necessary materials for projects and ensure compliance with permits and licenses.
  • Oversee project work, taking full responsibility for quality and timely completion.
  • Adhere to safety standards and procedures, prioritizing the highest level of compliance.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections, ensuring clear communication of safety protocols.
  • Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members involved in excavation and installation activities.
  • Execute switching procedures to isolate, insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines, following established safety protocols.
  • Manage the connection, disconnection, installation, and removal of various electrical devices at customer facilities.
  • Accurately phase and label underground equipment.
  • Operate equipment to assist crews in completing their tasks effectively.
  • Provide training for new hires and apprentices in the trade.
  • Coordinate with utility companies for site assessments.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in operating heavy machinery and general construction.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 or more years of experience, with significant expertise in supervising and training skilled labor.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based and involves physical activities such as bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting. The role may require working in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.

Physical demands include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, maintain clarity of vision at varying distances, and demonstrate precise hand-eye coordination. The ability to distinguish colors is also necessary.
